Advocacy for Civil Registration of Children at Rumah Impian: Birth Certificates Issued, A New Hope for The Children

Civil registration is a fundamental right of every child and an essential foundation for accessing education, healthcare, and legal protection. Without proper identity documents, children are at risk of exclusion from basic services.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, social worker Raka Galih Sajiwo conducted a civil registration advocacy visit to the Sleman Social Affairs Office. The advocacy aimed to coordinate the issuance of birth certificates for children supported by Rumah Impian, namely NA, AF, FY, and AN.

The visit was conducted together with Kak Cua and social work students from UIN Sunan Kalijaga. During the meeting, the Social Affairs Office explained that there had been no significant progress yet, mainly due to coordination challenges with the Sleman Civil Registry Office regarding administrative requirements.

Some children face complex situations, including the absence of parents’ marriage certificates or incomplete paternal data. Despite these challenges, social workers from the Social Affairs Office have made substantial efforts to explain the children’s conditions and advocate for their best interests.

As a constructive step forward, all parties agreed on the idea of holding a case conference involving Rumah Impian, the Social Affairs Office, and the Civil Registry Office, to find child-centered solutions.

Good News: AF and NA’s Birth Certificate Have Been Issued

Amid these challenges, encouraging news emerged. On January 15, the Sleman Civil Registry Office officially issued AF and NA’s birth certificate. This milestone represents a significant breakthrough, not only for AF and NA but also as a source of hope for other children supported by Rumah Impian.

Yayasan Rumah Impian Indonesia extends its highest appreciation to the Sleman Civil Registry Office for its commitment and dedication in ensuring children’s civil rights, especially for those in vulnerable situations. This achievement highlights the importance of collaboration among institutions to create real and lasting impact.

Moving forward, Rumah Impian will continue its advocacy efforts, including improving administrative documents for other children and awaiting further updates from the Social Affairs Office. Every child deserves legal recognition and a dignified future.
