Warm conversations, shared experiences, and meaningful reflections filled Wisma Pojok Indah on Saturday morning as 24 parents of children supported by The Dreamhouse Indonesia Foundation (Yayasan Rumah Impian Indonesia) gathered for the organization’s first Parenting Workshop of 2026.
The participants represented the communities of Tlukan, Wonocatur, Sidomulyo, Jogoyudan, and Kalasan, united by a common desire to become stronger, more compassionate parents for their children.
Held as part of the celebration of Indonesia’s National Children’s Day 2026, the workshop highlighted an important message: protecting children begins by strengthening families. While children are at the heart of The Dreamhouse Indonesia Foundation’s programs, empowering parents is equally essential in creating safe and nurturing environments where children can thrive.
The event was fully supported by Rotary Club of Jogja Merapi together with the Rotary Clubs across the Yogyakarta Area, demonstrating a shared commitment to child protection and family empowerment through community collaboration.
Carrying the theme “Strengthening Positive Parenting Without Violence and Building Secure Relationships Between Parents and Children,” the workshop featured Dr. Agnes Indar Etikawati, M.Psych., Psychologist, a lecturer at Sanata Dharma University and an experienced child and family psychologist. Throughout two interactive sessions, parents explored the harmful effects of violence on children’s development, learned positive discipline approaches, discussed emotional regulation for parents, and discovered practical ways to build secure attachment through empathy and healthy communication.
Rather than being a one-way seminar, the workshop encouraged active participation. Parents openly shared personal experiences, reflected on everyday parenting challenges, and learned from one another. The discussions emphasized that children flourish when they feel heard, respected, and emotionally safe within their families.

Before the workshop concluded, participants committed to implementing practical parenting changes at home, ensuring that the lessons learned would continue beyond the classroom.
